I am a teacher that works in a government school. Although it may seem like we don’t have any facilities this isn’t your typical government school. It has been renovated and houses a lot of facilities that make education a lot easier. I am the head of the department at my school. We have a school portal that enables us to monitor and manage our students by making it easier for them to submit assignments and homework online. However, this isn’t the only advantage that we staff get. We also have access to great Wi-Fi that is beyond amazing and it is blazingly fast and quite surprising to even exist in a school. I take full advantage of this Wi-Fi and download videos and other software etc for my use.
I even download games that require large space on my personal computer. All was going well until we all had to quarantine ourselves due to the global pandemic. This meant that we now had to teach and work from home. Since the school had all the facilities I didn’t give much attention to my Wi-Fi connection at home as it was sufficient to do small tasks. But since my job now required me to use a lot of data I now had to find a solution to expand my coverage throughout my house.
So I searched online and purchased an extender. I bought the msrm us300 extender. It was really nice and got the job done all while being cost-effective. I did the msrm us300 extender setup using the default gateway. However, there are many other ways to complete the set-up. A list of detailed set-up instructions is given below
Setting up the msrm extender
The entire set-up process was really easy and even though I don’t possess a lot of technical skills and can assuredly say that anyone can do this set-up. Before setting up the extender make sure to carefully unbox it and remove all the pieces of packaging, then plug it into a power socket and turn it on. Now, once the repeater has been turned on you can set it up using one of two ways either by using an ethernet cable or by wirelessly connecting it with your smartphone.
To set it up using an ethernet cable connect the ethernet cable to the extender and then insert the other end into your personal computer and head over to the default gateway by typing in the default i.p address and enter your login credentials or you can also head over to the ap.setup page and set up the extender from there. Once you have logged in to the page you can change the SSID and password of your repeater and set it as a different access point or you can connect to your existing router by selecting the scan option and clicking on your router from the list of available devices. This way you can get to choose who has access to your repeater.
Extender setup using the WPS button
Now that the wired set-up method is complete, let’s move onto the wireless method. To do that make sure that the repeater is connected to your smartphone or laptop. Then the setup process is the exact same. You can also set-up the extender using the WPS button, to do that press and hold the WPS button at the back of the repeater for about 5 seconds till the lights start flashing, then do the same on the main Wi-Fi router.
Once the connection has been established you will see that the globe symbol will have turned on. This completes the comfast extender setup. There are a few things that can go wrong while setting up the extender such as the default page not opening and to fix that refer to the troubleshooting instructions given below.
Extender troubleshooting and maintenance
In order to fix issues like ap.setup not working you need to make sure that the entire set-up process was done correctly otherwise such issues will keep recurring. But let’s try a common solution that is known to fix a lot of problems and that is rebooting the extender. Try it and if that doesn’t work then the only factory resetting the extender can fix this issue as there is something wrong with the setup.
