Bunk beds are often used to create more space because of growing family needs. However, it is always better to be thoughtful before making any purchase. You need to compare the advantages and disadvantages of bunk beds and figure out whether they match your needs or not. You need to ask yourself whether this furniture item is really worth buying before you opt for a purchase.

If you are still confused regarding purchase of a bunk bed arrangement, we are here to help you out. We have put together some advantages and disadvantages of bunk beds that will help you in making a final decision about the purchase for your home:

Advantages of bunk beds

Here are some advantages of bunk beds to decide if the bunk beds will work for you:

Easily Separable

A great plus point of bunk beds is that they can be assembled in multiple arrangements. These beds have a capability of growing with your family. Further, as your child changes over time, these beds can also change accordingly. You can assemble these beds in a number of effective variations to match requirements of your child as they grow taller. In addition to a number of combinations, these beds can be separated altogether and become two twin single beds.

On the other hand, if you relocate to a bigger residence where there is no more need for a shared room, you can easily use these separated bunk beds and place one bed in a room and the other one in another to provide your children with privacy. You can also convert these beds into daybeds once they serve their main purpose and your children become all grown up. These beds can be placed in spare rooms as well.

Privacy in a Shared Space

Lack of space will definitely force your children to share a room. However, you can still make sure they have a private space on their own even if they are sharing a room. This is possible if you use bunk beds, as this will help you children get a private space and you can make smart use of curtains. Additionally, you children can create some brilliant dens. They don’t have to argue over sleeping with or without light because of the clip on lamps with bunk beds.

Extended Play Space due to Bunk Beds

Your children may face an issue of lack of play space, as floor space in your home may get occupied because of storage solutions and other furniture items. You children will get very limited space to play and enjoy their spare times. The best way to avoid this issue is using bunk beds as they help extend the available floor space by occupying only the place of one single bed instead of two and provide your children with more space to play and enjoy their leisure times.

Disadvantages of Bunk Beds

There are not too many disadvantages and we don’t think these factors should be termed as disadvantages. Still you need to be aware about them and prepare yourself and your children to counter these issues. Some downsides are listed below:

Height Sleeping

Safety of children especially during sleep times is one of the main concerns of parents. They especially fear about the safety of children sleeping at high levels of bunk beds. Children may also lack proper sleep because of the fear of rolling out and hurting themselves. Therefore, it is better to go with bunk beds that are constructed in a solid manner and equipped with fixed guard rails to help your children sleep properly without any fear of falling down the bed during the night.

Reaching the Top Bunk

Another issue that creates unrest for parents is how their children are going to reach the top bunk. There are ladders to reach there and get into the bed. There is always a fear of children falling down the bunk while trying to reach the top bunk using the ladder. The best way to avoid such issues is giving the top bunk to a child who is at least 4 or above.
