Setting up the Laser Level

If you already have a complete laser level set in hand, then you first have to secure it on the tripod with the use of an adapter. Next, make sure that it is secure enough even if it gets accidentally knocked or moved.

But if the laser level you’re using is a manual one, you have to adjust the bubble vial. To do this, turn the screws or knobs of it until the bubble aligns with the center of the vial.
After ensuring that your unit is secure and level, you can now turn it on. It will then produce a laser beam onto the surface where it’s facing. Next, you need to adjust the laser level so that its beam is placed on the exact location where you need the level line.
Finding the Laser Beam Outdoors
When working in outdoor areas, it can be difficult to find the laser beam with the naked eye. Typically, laser levels built for outdoor tasks produce green beams instead of red. This is because green lasers are a lot more visible than red ones. Green laser beams can thus work over longer ranges than red beams.
However, a laser level producing green beams alone is not enough for finding the level line in brightly lit outdoor settings. Fortunately, there are laser detectors available for this problem.
A laser detector works by intercepting the beam and beeping multiple times to let you know its precise position. To use this device, you need to have a clamp and a grade rod.
First, secure the laser detector to the clamp. Then, attach the clamp, along with the detector, to the grade rod. After that, slide the laser detector up and down the length of the rod until it makes a beeping sound.
Once it beeps, that means it has found the level. You can then secure the detector in place and take the needed measurements.
After setting up the laser level on your tripod and the detector on your grade rod, you can then start leveling outdoors.
First, identify the height of your preferred level line. Then, adjust your grade rod and detector toward a point of that height. Slide the detector up and down until it catches the beam and beeps. Next, secure it in place on the rod.
After that, find another point along the level line where the detector intercepts the laser beam. Finally, mark that point with the use of paint or other marking tools. Repeat the steps until you have all of the needed reference points.
